Description

Boat

Purposeful, spacious and made for long passages, Adventure is a Mexican liveaboard that connects divers with two of the eastern Pacific's great marine destinations: the Sea of Cortez and the Revillagigedo Islands, widely known as Socorro. Her strong aluminium hull and twin Caterpillar engines are well suited to offshore navigation, while a cruising speed of approximately 11 knots helps maximise time at the dive sites.

The vessel was originally built in 1977 and has since been converted, upgraded and maintained for liveaboard diving. Bluewater Dive Travel currently lists her at 27.1 metres long with a 6.55-metre beam. Inside, guests have an air-conditioned saloon, a dining room and comfortable spaces for briefings, photo review or a quiet break between dives. Outside, shaded seating and broad sun decks provide room to stretch out, watch Baja's rugged coastline and scan the horizon for dolphins, whales or mobula rays.

Adventure is designed around active days in the water. The main deck brings the dive benches, tank stations and equipment area together near a wide water-access platform. Two 20-foot Zodiacs transport divers to sites that cannot be approached by the main vessel. A dedicated camera rinse tank, charging points and freshwater hoses help keep equipment organised throughout the voyage.

Meals are served in the indoor dining area and focus on fresh Mexican and international flavours. Published onboard service includes buffet-style breakfasts, plated lunches and dinners, snacks, soft drinks and options for vegetarian or vegan guests. Dietary requirements should always be submitted before travel so the crew can confirm what is possible in remote waters.

Whether the itinerary follows the island-dotted Gulf of California or crosses open ocean toward Socorro, Adventure offers the practical layout, range and relaxed social atmosphere that experienced divers expect from a Mexico liveaboard.

Cabin

Current accommodation descriptions show 8 air-conditioned cabins, including double/twin rooms and larger quad cabins. The arrangement is useful for couples, solo travellers sharing a room, families and small dive groups. Each cabin provides a place to sleep and recharge between a full schedule of dives.

Typical cabin amenities include:

  • Individually controlled air conditioning
  • Twin, double or bunk-style sleeping arrangements depending on cabin category
  • Private washbasin with hot water
  • Vanity mirror and reading lights
  • Storage for personal belongings
  • 110V electrical outlets
  • Daily housekeeping

Bathrooms are arranged as separate shared men's and women's facilities with multiple toilets, showers and sinks. This is an important distinction for travellers comparing Adventure with an ensuite-cabin liveaboard.

Published capacity figures vary by sales platform and by operating configuration. Bluewater's current page advertises up to 19 guests, while other listings describe different diver and passenger limits. Guests should therefore confirm the exact cabin plan, occupancy and bathroom arrangement for their selected departure before booking.

Diving

Adventure supports multi-day scuba expeditions with a shaded dive deck, individual setup space and fast tender access. Most full diving days schedule 3–4 dives, although the number and timing always depend on distance, sea conditions, park rules and the experience of the group. Night dives are offered on suitable Sea of Cortez routes; offshore Socorro programs generally concentrate on demanding daytime big-animal dives.

The boat carries aluminium cylinders, weights, an air compressor and Nitrox facilities. Rental equipment and training may be available when reserved in advance. Two Zodiacs, each published for up to ten divers, allow groups to enter close to the action and return directly to the dive platform.

Key diving facilities include:

  • Shaded dive deck and tank benches
  • Two 20-foot dive tenders
  • Nitrox for appropriately certified divers
  • Dedicated rinse area for underwater cameras and electronics
  • Charging station for lights and camera equipment
  • DIN adaptors and rinse hoses
  • Rental scuba equipment on advance request
  • Emergency oxygen and first-aid equipment

Sea of Cortez diving can include sea lion colonies, wrecks, rocky reefs, seamounts and mobula encounters. Socorro focuses on exposed volcanic sites visited by giant Pacific manta rays, dolphins, hammerheads, silky sharks and other pelagic species. Some locations can bring current, surge, blue-water ascents and negative entries, so relevant experience and good buoyancy control are strongly recommended.
