Description

Boat

Arenui is a beautifully crafted boutique liveaboard built in traditional Indonesian Phinisi style yet fitted with modern conveniences and high-end finishes. Launched in 2007 with expert local craftsmanship using reclaimed hardwood, this 43 m vessel showcases a spacious and elegant layout designed for comfort on extended cruises. The hull spans a 9 m beam and draws 3.75 m, providing excellent stability at sea, while her cruising speed of 9–11 knots makes her ideal for exploring Indonesia’s far-flung dive destinations.

Arenui offer guests the chance to step aboard a truly Indonesian experience, to enhance holiday time in this special destination. If you've dreamed of setting sail aboard an old-fashioned pirate ship (but with all mod-cons) then this is for you. If you want to experience the culture and style of the country, as you sail through its beautiful islands, then this if for you.

Arenui features an expansive indoor restaurant and lounge area which takes up the central space on the main deck and reaches across the full width of the vessel. At one end there is a large counter for buffets and snack items, as well as tea and coffee facilities, wine fridges, cold soft drinks and juices. Above the counter are 2 LCD screens for showing movies, slideshows and also displaying dive briefings.

In the centre of the indoor restaurant/lounge, there are some long tables with an open bench on one side, ideal for group of 6 to 8 guests sit together, opposite the long tables, there are two smaller tables, ideal for couples.

At the front of the indoor restaurant/lounge, there are 2 over-sized, curved sofas - one in each corner. With a table in front they are ideal for a group of divers writing up log-books, or a relaxing place for flicking through photos on your laptop, or just a spacious day-bed for reclining with a book or a movie. In addition, there is an iMac workstation (equipped with both windows and mac operating systems and software), 2 charging stations with shelves.

Arenui also has 3 main outdoor areas, including the largest deck you're likely to find on an Indonesian liveaboard:

The outdoor SKY restaurant is located on the upper deck, a perfect place for al fresco meals and watching the changing landscapes. Meals on board combine international and local Indonesian flavours, with full-board service including breakfast, buffet lunches, a-la-carte dinners and snacks, all served in comfortable communal dining areas.

Behind the SKY restaurant is the SKY lounge, features a wooden bar for drinks, day-beds and benches all fitted with high-quality, thick mattresses (20+ cm) for ultimate comfort. There are spaces open to the elements for the sun-lovers among you but also a large canopy for shade.

The dive deck is in front of the restaurant, on the main deck. As wide as the boat, this area has plenty of space for guests to kit-up together for a dive and also store personal dive equipment. Along the two edges are wooden counters for camera equipment, with drawers below for pelican cases, masks, snorkels, rash-guards, SMBs and other small items, plus 2 rinse tanks. In the centre we have a comfortable sofa bench, which makes the wetsuit dance considerably easier. There is a large area for hanging items to dry - although crew members will wash and hang your wetsuit or rash-guard for you, after every dive. There is also a canopy for shade.

Arenui has 8 exceptionally spacious guest cabins, accommodating up to 16 guests in total.

Itineraries

The Diving

Here at the Arenui, we aim to provide you with the convenience of a fully equipped dive liveaboard, combined with all the richness, artistic touches and comforts of a 5 star luxury boutique hotel. But unlike a land-based resort, this luxurious floating hotel drops you off directly at the best dive sites that Indonesia has to offer!

Just like our vessel design and services, the same attention to detail was given to our cruise itineraries, which not only include all the usual popular diving sites in Indonesia but also other world-class destinations which have been overlooked by most recreational diving operators. When it comes to our annual schedule, the Arenui has chosen the best dive sites based on the best times of year to explore these world famous destinations.

To showcase the best of Indonesia, we spend the May to October months mainly around the Komodo National Park area, taking in dive sites and landscapes from Bali right across to Flores and Alor. In November we move towards Ambon in Maluku and the Spice Islands in the Banda Sea, working our way to the Raja Ampat area of Western Papua to continue dive cruises from December through until April.

In Indonesia, whether its nudibranchs and rhinopias you’re after, or manta rays and schooling fish, this region really has it all. From black sand muck dives to crystal clear drift dives, from warm water to cold, Indonesia is a place to visit time and time again; once is never enough!

Indonesia's Top Destinations

Komodo
Komodo’s dive sites stretch from the warm waters of the Flores Sea in the north to the chillier waters down south in the Indian Ocean. The underwater terrain presents many contrasts, with sheer cliff walls, pinnacles, sandy flat bottoms, underwater plateaus, slopes, caves, swim-throughs and channels – all with differing colours, sizes and types of both hard and soft corals.

Although there is diving year-round in Komodo, the best period is considered to be April through November. Currents in parts of Komodo can be quite strong – so we dive according to the tides – but with so many great sites to choose from we can always adapt the schedule for the best diving.

Alor & Flores
Cruises in Alor and Flores offer widespread muck diving, sharks and large schools of fish, WWII wreck dives, untouched reefs and unexplored coral gardens, magnificent soft corals and stunning hard coral formations. We also visit the famous Pura Island villagers, who splash out of their wooden dugout canoes and dive underwater with home-made goggles fashioned from wood and glass bottles.

Most cruises that cover the Alor or Flores area start or end at the post of Maumere, on the northern coast of east Flores island. Maumere is roughly 430 nautical miles east of Bali in East Nusa Tenggara province (Nusa Tenggara Timur) – in the Lesser Sunda Islands. This region is home to a world record, established when a scientific expedition recorded 1,200 species of fish, including some new to science, all found in Maumere Bay alone!

Maluku & Spice Islands (Banda Sea)
Cruises that take in the Banda Sea, often start or end at the famous port of Ambon, offering the chance to dive with the unusual critters of Ambon Bay. Ambon is roughly 830 nautical miles north-east of Bali, or roughly 250 nautical miles south-west, situated within the Maluku Islands archipelago (sometimes seen labeled as the Moluccas or the Spice Islands). Ambon Island lies off the south-west coast of the much larger Seram Island and consists of 2 territories – Maluku Tengah and the main city and port of Ambon, which is also the capital of Maluku province.

One of the major highlights for this trip is the island of Manuk, which offers delights above and below. Topside, it is possible to revel in the spectacle of thousands of seabirds, including comical yet beautiful frigatebirds and boobies. The sight is unforgettable. One of the few phenomena able to rival that display is the vision of a dozen sea snakes undulating and swimming underwater. Some divers have even been lucky enough to watch them hunting in a pack. It is thought that the warm geothermal vents present in these waters attract these cold-blooded creatures in large numbers.

Forgotten Islands
Dive sites in the Forgotten Islands are in the Banda Sea and are particularly noticeable for the crystal clear blue sea, deep walls and huge sponges. The stunning walls of the Banda Sea are beautiful and healthy due to the isolation of these areas. The sunlight in the shallows of the dive sites light up the dancing anthias that really look like someone is throwing up ‘confetti fish’!

The Forgotten Islands are fast becoming famous for the schooling and individual hammerhead sharks that can be seen there. There are several areas where the sharks have been seen – at Dusborgh, Nil Desparandum, Manuk and in the Banda Islands. Dusborgh and Nil Desparadum are sea mounts far from any islands and are surrounded by very deep water. Manuk is the most eastern volcano in Indonesia. Here sea snakes are abundant and very curious! Diving here you will soon got used to the snakes coming at you from all directions to take a sniff at your fins or even your face!! Manuk attracts frigates and brown and red footed boobies so surface intervals can be spent watching these birds souring above the volcano.

Raja Ampat
When you join a cruise featuring Raja Ampat, all the famous dive sites such as Dampier Strait, Manta Sandy, Boo and Misool are on the agenda. Most cruises start and/or end at the provincial capital – Sorong.

Raja Ampat is supported by currents extremely rich in plankton, resulting in huge schools of fish and shoals of pelagics. Fans of macro and strange creatures are sure to get their fill as well, with regular sightings of many oddballs, both big and small. If all of that isn’t enough, wreck aficionados can also enjoy the World War II ships and planes that have come to rest in the region.

It was definitely a super experience!! just returned from 12 amazing days aboard the Arenui exploring Raja Ampat. I hardly know where to begin. The ship is stunning...the rooms spacious with very comfortable beds...food is beyond terrific and such variety! What really makes this live aboard stand out over all the others we have done is the quality of the crew, their attention to detail, their endless kindness and attentiveness to our large or small needs...this is truly the very best experience we have ever had.
